Global Warming: The only Earth we have.

Global Warming: The only Earth we have.

Global warming is a present issue in the world today. The trends of the weather in the planet indicate that the world’s temperature is slowly rising. What happens when it’s too late? Global warming has become an issue that cannot be ignored any more, and in order to stop it from going further, we must change the way we live.

Most humans are incredibly careless about what they throw away and where they put it. The ocean is not a dumpster and should not be polluted with our garbage, or industrial, residential or agricultural waste. 80% of the marine debris is plastic which is extremely dangerous to aquatic life- they can become tangled in it, ingest it, or even suffocate in it. This pollution causes many problems in the ocean and is a contribution to global warming. If it does not stop soon, we will no longer have the same beautiful blue seas with all of the same beautiful creatures. Instead we will have seas of garbage and little to no marine life, if humans continue to pollute the ocean with their waste.

Sharks are portrayed as terrifying animals. However in their situation, humans are the terrifying ones because we are polluting and destroying their home. We are not the only living things on this planet. Sharks ensure OUR survival, so why aren’t their lives more important to us? They play a very important role in the ecosystem that provides one third of the entire world with food, controls the Earth’s weather and temperature, and produces oxygen for us while removing half of the man made CO2  greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming has the possibility of killing off the world’s population of sharks. The extinction of sharks would cause many problems as they play a vital role in the ocean’s ecosystem, which would be messed up in all sorts of ways if sharks disappeared. We as humans need to realize this and act upon it because an ocean without sharks is more terrifying than an ocean with them.

Deforestation also drives climate change and global warming. Shouldn’t we be concerned that the lungs of our earth are being clear cut? Or that the planet’s oxygen supply is slowly decreasing? It’s not like we need oxygen to breathe and live or anything. The other benefits of forests include cleaner drinking water, economic growth, a home for plants and animals, and clean air. Forests are being cut down faster than they can be replanted, and when severely depleted, the photosynthesis is reduced. Without photosynthesis, there is no oxygen, and obviously without oxygen, there is no life. Deforestation is basically killing things (trees) that supply us with the air we need to breathe. If this does not stop soon then the impact would throw humanity and all life off course and possibly in real danger. It also causes more carbon emissions than all of the cars and trucks in the world combined. We need to eliminate this because it is another way of killing our only planet.

Temperatures are rising, glaciers are melting, ocean levels are rising, the ozone layer is thinning, animals are going extinct. All are because of global warming caused by humans. The Earth is slowly being destroyed, and not much is being done about it because most of us humans are too careless to realize the effects of global warming. No one knows for sure how much pollution the world can take and when it will be too late. We need to change the way we live from destroying the Earth and polluting it, to living a clean lifestyle and working with the Earth to save it from further destruction. This will leave future generations with a beautiful, healthy, sustainable Earth rather than one filled with garbage, landfills, no green grass or animals, or blue skies. Before it is too late, changes absolutely need to be made to how we live to stop further pollution and global warming for good.

  2. I agree with the idea of global warming and how we need to bring changes to our environment before it's too late. I like the concept of the first image, and the way it portrays the impact of pollution being hidden under the water.I notice a change in color under the water, from light blue to a dark and dirty shade of blue. This can add to your idea because it can represent the filth of global warming done by humans. Even though the water looks nice from above, the deeper you go in the water, the dirtier it gets. Also, do you really think that one day, humans will be able to stop global warming?

    1. Thanks girl I agree with you about the darkness representing the filth in our oceans. I do hope that humans will be able to stop global warming, but I'm unsure if everyone will actually realize in time what is happening to the Earth. Hopefully we can stop before it is too late and prevent it from going further than it already has.

  3. Very good points Natalie Pridham! I agree that we need to change our ways and treat the earth with respect before it's too late. You did a great job capturing the impact we have on our environment. As well as Sachi, I also find your first image very interesting! I as well see the color change from the blue to the dirtier shade of blue. I believe this shows that soon it is going to be too late and we will not have the same beautiful blue seas as we do now if we do not change our ways. You made that very clear when analyzing that image. In your first image I see that we are maybe in denial about polluting. Most of us see that our earth is polluted but we do nothing about it or we deny that we do anything wrong to the environment. My question to you is, do you believe we are in denial about polluting the earth?

  4. Thank you Kort! I do believe we are in denial about pollution. Humans just do not want to face the reality that has been caused by both past and present generations. They do not want to believe that one day we could be in real danger because of the disasters that could be caused from pollution and global warming.
