We have all heard of Doom’s Day, and have seen movies about the entire world being wiped out in a matter of hours. As advancement in technology is increasing and countries are starting to modernize faster than ever, we must realize that Planet Earth is slowly dying. There are many things that can contribute to its death. Some think of natural disasters, and even of deadly diseases, however, Planet Earth’s biggest enemies are none other than the innocent, and harmless humans. The ego and greed in humans is resulting in the destruction of our own home.
Humans wanting to be in control and wanting to be at a higher position in the ecosystem, an example of their egoistic nature, is shown by juxtaposition. In the image(on the left), the triangle and circle are beside each other clearly showing the difference between the two. The image has a triangle and a circle involving humans and other living organisms. The triangle represents the ego of humans and us always wanting to be on top of everything. It also illustrates inequality and how we are always competing with other living things. On the other hand, the circle represents the circle of life, and how we should actually be living our lives on Earth. Animals, plants and humans are represented as one. All living things surrounded by each other and being together, shows equality. Our ego is coming in the way of us trying to protect our home. If we never thought about ourselves as a being more of a priority than the other living things, Earth would’ve been in much of a nicer condition than it is right now. Getting rid of our ego and showing equality to everyone including nature, will only benefit us in the future.
The biggest way humans are causing harm to Earth is by polluting it with their garbage. We are always worried about keeping ourselves clean and looking fresh, but who is worried about Earth when it comes to littering? Garbage pollution is an issue everywhere. Many of us throw our garbage anywhere we like, except for in the litter box. Even if we don’t litter, all the garbage ends up at the same place. The image (on the right), shows how humans can be egoistic, and not think about how littering will affect Earth by using focus. In the image, you can see a man surfing, but the garbage floating in the water is more in focus and catches your eye. You can see how much garbage there is in that wave of water, and it's impossible to to imagine how much there is in the entire ocean. The litter in the water shows that wherever humans are, their garbage will follow. Thinking more about how our actions affect our planet, is for our own good.
Countries are developing faster than ever, and as a result, our environment is suffering. Humans show their greed, while they are busy cutting down entire forests for landscapes. Building more houses and buildings are important, but natural greenery and trees are much more crucial for the future of humans and the planet. The image (on the left),uses juxtaposition, and shows the before and after of our environment. As time passes, our surroundings will soon be full of construction. Taking down nature, shows how humans can be greedy because we are only thinking about our benefits. So many animals, and other organisms lose their homes in the process of construction. Many areas like lakes are also polluted. Ultimately, one day, nature surrounding us might be gone and we will be left with buildings and they won’t provide us with anything nature does for us now.
It’s true that money runs the world, but it can be hard to believe that humans can risk the well-being of their own home, to earn more bills. Nowadays, money is seen as more important than the condition of the environment. The image(on the right), illustrates the greed of humans as the man is seen putting the globe in the chipper, which gives back money. Color is used to portray money, the man, the chipper and the world individually. For example, the green bills stand out from the pale yellow background, the bright yellow chipper stands out against the aqua, and so does the globe. The bold colors are used to attract a person visualizing the image. Each item, with different colors represents something. The man with the angry face represent humans, the chipper and the bills represent our way of using Earth for our own benefits. In the end, the greed humans have for money and the ways of getting profit from the planet will only bring us more trouble.
In conclusion, the ego and greed in humans is resulting in the destruction of our own home. Other things like money and position might seem important now, but in the end, we only have Mother Nature. Therefore, let's try to act now and take care of Planet Earth before it's too late.

I really enjoyed your topic and agree with what you said. One thing that I noticed is in your third image, it uses juxtaposition (like you said), but it also uses colour to show that the world is slowly dying. When I was looking at the image, I noticed that the top part of the hourglass is bright and colourful, whereas the bottom of it is just brown. I think that looking at the colour also helps to prove your point that the world is slowly dying. What made you choose to use juxtaposition over colour?
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your feedback Jennifer! You are right about color being used, and how it shows that our world is dying. I totally agree with you and I also think that the difference in color can show our world now, and how it can turn out in the future. However, I chose juxtaposition because, since the images are so close to each other, the change is more noticeable. When you compare them, it looks like a before and after of our world and you can really see the contrast.

ReplyDeleteGood job Sachi :) I loved your topic, and also agree with your points. I really like your choice of the 4th picture, because it really displays how blind everyone really is to what is happening to the Earth. They're destroying the Earth for economic benefit. It is a picture with a great message that not everyone sees. Money is becoming more important than the one and only Earth we have to live on, and this "greed of humans" is totally blinding us from seeing what is really happening. My question is, do YOU think we can save the Earth in time? Or is it already too late?
ReplyDeleteThank you Natalie! You are completely right about the greed in humans and how they are willing to choose money and profit, over Planet Earth. Although, many people are now more aware of issues regarding the environment, I think that it is too late to save our planet. People value money and profit over so many other things in life, that they can only think about their own well being. The world is being taken over by humans and their technology. But they are forgetting that, without Earth, we are nothing, and in the end, money and power will not be important.
DeleteGreat job with your blog. I fully agree with your opinion in your first image of how humans feel a need to always in control. I think its funny how even though we think we are in control we do things like litter and view ourselves as more important than other beings causing a collapse in the world around us that we have the capability to stop but we do not. Oh the irony! If I may add a suggestion, in the last image there is symbolism in it that you could have used to strengthen your argument. For example, the man in the photo is wearing a suit which symbolizes the corporate world and how they have much sway over this negative impact in the world and are responsible for much of the destruction on Earth. Also his eyes are hollow making him look like a zombie. This could represent how numb we are to what we are doing and that we do not realize what we are doing to our world.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback, Emma! Your idea about symbolism is very true. I used color because, every item has a different color and this makes it easy for people to see what the items are and what they represent. The color is linked to symbolism, and how the man represents us, the chipper and the bills represent us using the Earth for our benefits. However, I fully agree with your opinion on the suit, and the eyes. Also, I like the way they represent the corporate world and how our eyes are so full of greed that we can't make sense of what it is doing to Earth. That is a great point for the 4th image, and I appreciate your advice!
